Oneplus concept one phone first look in Ohh so Orange colour.........

The OnePlus Concept One

OnePlus announced that it would unveil the smartphone concept at CES this week, speculation arose. Can this be complicated? First of all, look at OnePlus 8? Any new form factors or extreme design development? Well, then we find out it really is ... none of those things. It was a leather-wrapped phone with faded lenses. Yesterday I took a quick look at Concept One here in Las Vegas and I can confirm what we have achieved. Also, it's very, very orange.

At first it is a little intriguing to blush; Why is OnePlus publishing so many stories on the phone that you can never afford to have a technology that, to put it mildly, no one asked? The company has been an aggressive self-promoter, but I think in the case of Concept One, OnePlus wants to tell the story that it is looking for new technology itself, not on the shoulders of suppliers or partners. OnePlus claims to have spent 18 months working with McLaren to make electrochromic glass technology a reality, and it's mostly a smartphone world.

I have seen it and it works as advertised. Rear cameras are not completely invisible when the glass is dark, but they are invisible enough for the invisible camera function (called OnePlus) to take effect. Change also happens quickly: within one or two seconds after the camera application is closed or opened.

OnePlus also claims that the technology has enabled it to incorporate a true neutral density filter into Concept One cameras. The usefulness of the ND filter in the smartphone camera is certainly questionable. Apart from the ability to capture long exposure motion blur in very bright conditions, there are very few daily scenarios in which this function can be useful. In addition, OnePlus was immediately forced to admit that its ND filter would probably have been distorted due to the fact that the electrochromic tone slanted deep into the blue and purple ends of the color spectrum. Theoretically, this could be corrected to some extent during software processing, but again, I think this is an addition to the fact that in any case the usefulness of the ND filter on the smartphone is still limited.

The rest of the Concept One is a lightweight engineering company with a 24k gold PVD-covered aluminum frame. The use of PVD ensures efficient use of the coating material and tends to increase its durability compared to traditional coating methods, and the Concept One's structure is really quite bright. On the phone, there is also a very bright orange leather case, reminiscent of the iconic orange McLaren again. Inside the phone, it's identical to the current OnePlus 7T Pro, and obviously OnePlus didn't intend to demonstrate that concept, other than painting the glass and researching the materials it debuted.

Although, I think, a smartphone tied to the skin can be a bit tricky, mainly because most people want to do things. But I wouldn't be surprised if, say, an orange McLaren leather case became what you could buy for a OnePlus smartphone at some point.
